Don't Use Number 1

In Mouse Gang, I removed the 1 Cheese card because it made the game slow and boring. If one player played a 3 Cheese, others had to spend several turns playing 1 Cheese just to catch up, which felt unfair and frustrating.

By removing 1 Cheese and using 2 Cheese and 3 Cheese instead, the game became faster and more exciting. Now, every round feels important, and players can focus on smart moves instead of slowly chipping away at each other’s scores. This change keeps the game fun and fair for everyone.

If Having Too Much Randomness is Bad, Add More!

In Mouse Gang, I use randomness to make the game fun and lighthearted, not frustrating. In many card games, like Hearthstone or Magic, starting with a bad hand can feel unfair and often leads to losing. In my game, players can draw cards from the previous player’s hand, which means even if someone starts with bad cards, they still have a chance to get a good one later.

This also stops players from keeping all the strong cards to themselves. On top of that, the Mouse Cards add fun surprises with their random effects, keeping the game unpredictable. With so many random moments, players will laugh at their bad luck instead of getting upset, making every game an enjoyable experience.

No Kingmaking

In Mouse Gang, I made sure to design cards like Mice's Eleven, Dictator, and The World to prevent kingmaking and keep the game fair. For example,

Mice's Eleven allows players to steal a Cheese card from another player’s storage, giving them a chance to change their position in the game without relying on outside help.

Dictator lets players decide which card the next player will draw, adding strategy and control instead of leaving things to random interference.

The World allows players to swap their entire hand with another player, creating a fresh start for themselves while keeping the game dynamic.

These cards ensure that even if a player is behind, they can still affect their own game rather than unfairly influencing others. This way, Mouse Gang keeps the competition focused and fun for everyone.

Creative Naming and Character Design

In Mouse Gang, the names of the cards are a big part of what makes the game fun and special. Just like in Goat Simulator 3, where ideas from other games and stories are used in funny ways, I chose names that fit the cards’ effects and add some humor.

For example, Ctrl+Z is a perfect name for a card that lets you undo a move, just like the keyboard shortcut.

ColoRATto is a fun nod to the card game Coloretto while keeping with the mouse theme.

The World is inspired by dramatic moments in pop culture and lets you swap your hand with someone else, creating a big, exciting moment.

Mice’s Eleven is a playful twist on the heist movie Ocean’s Eleven and works perfectly for a card that lets you steal cheese from another player.

These names make the game feel creative and playful, adding to the joy of playing Mouse Gang.
